YOU ARE OBSERVING

Summary

Loss of body condition, fat and loss of mass of the chewing muscles can all lead to hollowing out of an area behind, around and above the eye.

What To Do

Compare the two sides, take photos and send them to your vet. In some cases, especially in older and emaciated horses, the area can become hollowed out enough to trap dirt and debris. In this case, you should periodically take a damp cloth and wipe it out.
