Paper towels are useful for drying after a procedure and for cleanup. Paper towels are not as abrasive as gauze and so are not as useful for cleaning wounds where debridement (removal) of dead tissue is desired. Roll cotton is better for sheath cleaning as it is less abrasive and holds more water.

It is smart to invest in higher quality paper towels as they tend to be much more absorbent.
