Summary
This is an uncommon and poorly understood condition involving abnormal bumps of hard, bony material in the leg tissues. Although they sometimes develop as a result of a traumatic injury, such as a kick from another horse, they can also arise with no such history of trauma.
The most common location for these hard bony knobs is near the lower outside of the stifle but they can appear elsewhere.
These bumps usually don't seem to cause much trouble, but surgical removal may be advised given their location or number, or if they interfere with normal movement or function, or in the rare case they are associated with lameness.
