Foal or Newborn, Born Stained Yellow, Orange or Brownish
Summary
This is called meconium staining and may indicate that a foal that is at high risk. A stressed or sick fetus may defecate while in the womb, contaminating the fluid in which they are bathed (the amnionic fluid). Foals may then breathe in this contaminated fluid, causing pneumonia.
If your newborn foal is stained in a yellow, orange or brownish color, contact your vet immediately. They will evaluate the general health of the foal, and help you determine the proper course of treatment or supportive care.
