Summary
This herpes virus is spread by venereal means as well as insects and through handlers and equipment. It causes ulcerations and crusting affecting the penis and prepuce of males, and vulva of females. Lesions can also develop on the mouth, lips and nostrils.
The lesions may be painful but usually heal in two weeks, sometimes leaving areas of pigment loss. As is the case with most herpes viruses, the lesions often recur.
