Summary

Gauze squares can be used as a primary dressing on contaminated or draining wounds, with or without topical ointments.

The abrasive nature of gauze makes it good for initial wound cleaning especially in contaminated wounds or when debridement is desired.

Gauze does tend to adhere to drying wounds and can be difficult to remove. It can also be applied to the sole of the hoof, with medications, under a bandage or boot.
